Phase: Completed 2025
The Enchanted Woodland Playground was designed by Amanda Spence (Situated Studio) and Rhian Thomas (Analog Architecture) and commissioned by Studio Response on behalf of Persimmon Homes East Wales for its residential development The Parish @Llanilltern Village.
The playground design draws on the site’s history, landscape, and natural character. Inspired by a nearby Ancient Woodland, the concept was to create an “Enchanted Woodland” play space that evokes a sense of magic and adventure. The design encourages children to play imaginatively – both individually and with each other - through abstract, contemporary interpretations of the woodland theme. Visually, it blends the warmth of natural materials with striking accents of vivid red, creating a space that feels both inviting and dynamic.
The playground was opened in November 2025 by pupils from Creigiau Primary School’s Eco Committee, who rolled up their sleeves to help plant over 100 trees before testing out the playground themselves. The children were joined by Mr Alex Barros-Curtis MP for the ribbon cutting. Our film shows how much fun was had by all involved:
The Enchanted Woodland playground was fabricated and installed by Green Play Project. Cardiff Ground Care provided support with the tree planting.
