Golwg y Mor Sculpture Trail
Artist: Juneau Projects
Client: Taylor Wimpey Homes
Location: Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan
Services: Strategy development and commissioning
Completed: 2021
The Golwg y Mor Sculpture Trail has been created by Juneau Projects in collaboration with local people in Rhoose. The trail, which has been installed at the Golwg y Mor residential development and Rhoose community library consists of a series of sculptures that celebrate wildlife and plants local to Rhoose.
Some sculptures are of birds’ heads and are based on local wildlife like blackbirds, red buntings and starlings. Some form a trail of different types of seaweed, reflecting the Rhoose coastline.
Juneau Projects ran workshops with local beavers groups, schools, playgroups, homework clubs and arts groups to develop ideas for the permanent sculptures.
Despite COVID-19 restrictions preventing a launch event taking place, Juneau Projects delivered a series of wildlife themed online workshops in sculpture and water colour to mark the installation of the sculptures.
You can download a map of the sculpture trail here and an activity book to accompany the trail will soon be available.
The Golwg Y Mor Sculpture Trail by Juneau Projects is produced by Studio Response on behalf of Taylor Wimpey Homes and the Vale of Glamorgan Council. Funding for this commission has been secured through a Section 106 agreement for the Golwg Y Mor, Rhoose residential site.
Studio Response worked with Creative Producer Louise Hobson on the implementation of the Golwg Y Mor public art programme.
