Floral Frottage
Artist: Jessica Taylor
Client: Cotswold Homes
Location: Chipping Sodbury
Services: Artist recruitment and project management
Phase: Completed 2025
Commissioned by Studio Response on behalf of Cotswold Homes, Jessica began by looking at local wildflowers in bloom and also in their “gone to seed” form - the beauty of both these stages and the practical importance of allowing seeds to grow and develop.
The artworks take the form of stone carvings which are designed for “stone rubbing” - the action of placing a sheet of paper over the stone and using a pencil or crayon to copy the design. The illustrations on each stone are intended as puzzles, games or decorations where once copied can be used as the starting point for further creative play or experimentation.
Originally from New York City, Jessica is an illustrator, drawer, printmaker and teacher based in Glasgow. Before this she worked as a researcher, looking at post-war architecture and planning.
