Finding Gibbonsdown is an ongoing public art project working with the communities of Gibbonsdown and Court wards in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, to explore the neighbourhood past and present.  It aims it ensure the community’s views about the place in which they live are taken into consideration when thinking about its future. 

As part of their work to date, Coombs Jones has facilitated a series of mini-residencies that focus on the area.  Hedges and Edges by Alt Architecture explores the role of landscape, ecology and the history of farming in the area.  It aimed to reveal its hidden histories, legacy and possible futures.

Spaces to Grow by documentary photographer Jon Poutney focused on Gibby Green Fingers, a community-led growing project in Gibbonsdown, spending time in the garden and documenting what he saw and heard.  You can see a film of Jon’s time in the area before lockdown here:

Coombs Jones use architecture, design and creative activity to create considered, imaginative projects connection people and place. They are continuing their exploration of Gibbbonsdown which will inform their proposals for permanent artworks for the area.
